Why Pipelines Struggle to Attract Capital, and What the 22 October Webinar Will Tackle

Nigeria's pipeline network carries the country's oil, gas and refined products. Building, upgrading and securing it takes long-horizon capital. That is why the Nigeria International Pipeline Technology & Security Conference (NIPITECS) 2026, taking place on 17-18 November in Abuja, is themed "Financing the Future: Unlocking Capital for Resilient Pipeline Infrastructure in Nigeria."

Before delegates reach Abuja, the NIPITECS 2026 Pre-Conference Webinar Series opens the financing conversation online. The first session is on Thursday, 22 October 2026 at 5:00 PM (prompt).

The session

Unlocking Development Finance for Nigerian Pipeline Through Innovative Financing Models

The title points to a practical question. Pipeline projects are capital-intensive, and the way they are financed shapes whether they get built, how they are maintained and how resilient they are. The webinar examines financing models that can unlock development finance for Nigerian pipeline projects.

Who is speaking

The first two speakers announced for the session both come from the banking sector:

  • Mr Emeka Nkwonta, General Manager and Group Head, Oil & Gas & Energy Business, Access Bank.
  • Dr Charles Ojieh, Regional Bank Head, South Commercial Region, Fidelity Bank PLC.

Hearing from lenders matters because they see projects the way capital providers do. For pipeline owners, operators and developers, that is the perspective that sits behind a funding decision. The webinar is hosted by Engr Ngozi Adeleke, President of PLAN, and Engr Okeoghene Ugbehe returns as our most capable moderator.

Why it matters for the wider conference

The pre-conference series builds toward NIPITECS 2026, where the financing theme runs through the programme. NIPITECS marks ten years this year, and PLAN, the Pipeline Professionals Association of Nigeria, marks twenty. Attending the webinar is a way to take part in the conversation early and arrive in Abuja with sharper questions.

Who should attend

Pipeline operators, project developers, investors, financiers, regulators, engineers and others whose work depends on how pipeline projects are funded.
